Housing Authority of Florence 2nd Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Fair
The Housing Authority of Florence Residents and students from the community who were interested in college, especially Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) attended a college fair on February 23, 2019. Students were between 15-18 years old. The event was free.
During the fair, we had several drawings and the students in attendance received a book title, I Ain’t Going to College by Marlo Prioleau. Representatives from Morris College, Benedict College, Claflin University, along with Author/Motivational Speaker Marlo Prioleau provided information and resources during this special event. In addition, one of the residents who is a graduating Senior was accepted on the spot to Benedict College in Columbia, SC.
The primary goal of the fair was to help the residents learn more about Historically Black Colleges and Universities and also to clear up some misconceptions about HBCUs. The HBCU Fair was successful in providing useful information and resources to the young people in their search for higher education. Students were introduced to the culture and academic opportunities available at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
